50mm Challenge: Street Photography Meetup

50mm Challenge: Street Photography Meetup

Saturday 27 April
Downtown Las Vegas - 10am - 2 Hours
Matthew Consoli
We will restrict ourselves to shooting at the equivalent of 50mm (Crop sensor equivalent or full-frame). At the same time, we will conduct a tour of street art, people, buildings, graffiti and mural art pieces with rich colors. The fun doesn't end there: afterward, you will be encouraged to produce colorful versions of your compositions that push against the threshold of good taste and composition and boldly share them for posterity and feedback.

Looking for an excuse to dust off your trusty nifty-fifty? Are you casually experienced with composing at 50mm? Join us as we go-back-to-basics, and rediscover the versatility of the classic standard focal length! Yes, we will be relying on our feet to serve as the zoom, and we will be rediscovering the struggle with cropping and composing at a fixed focal length.

Come along to our photo sessions to dust off your camera and get snap-happy with a professional photography instructor.

Brush up on your camera skills and learn new photography techniques whilst on a photo walk class with other local keen photographers!

We run two hour photography sessions based on a photography theme/technique/style and they take place in various locations in Las Vegas .

  • New to photography? We also run a popular 3 hour Beginners Guide to Photography Class once a month. And once in a while we will run special niche 3 hour classes, for example, Astrophotography - so do subscribe to our newsletter to know when the next on is!

  • Who can attend? Open to all skill levels, from beginners to keen amateurs. The photography instructor is there to help you with camera settings and provide any advice you need.

  • What to bring? We recommend bringing a camera that has full manual mode or semi-manual modes (Aperture or Shutter Priority). Compact cameras and smartphones also welcome!

The meeting point and full details for the day are sent in the booking confirmation email to the email address you provide at time of booking.

Join the Las Vegas Photography Group on Facebook to share your photos after the session.

The instructor was great and super easy to work with, talk to, and learn from. I look forward to taking more workshops with him!
Great! Loved having the models to work with, and the area of town was a nice choice. Perfect amount of time, and lots of opportunities for questions.
Old buildings and rust captures worked out great with the slightly overcast sky. The color was brought out. It is a nice place to take photos, I will go back.

It was a good session and got to see a cool part of Las Vegas. Matthew was very helpful in answering questions and seeking input for future events.
Great tour of uncommon places I thought I knew! Definitely woke up my creative self!!
It turned out to be practically a private tour and it was very good. Matt had lots of info on the area covered in our photo walk, he was really helpful and knowledgeable with regard to the 50mm challenge, camera info, shooting info. Really enjoyed the morning.

    Great experience
Great place to explore your creative abilities. Good instruction and good same of mind partnerships.
Matthew is a great lead photographer and his location was spot-on for model photography. I was able to get so many good shots, with different backgrounds and the models seemed to enjoy the day, also. The 85mm lens shoot worked really well!

Great event. Matthew was an excellent organizer and leader. The event was well planned, and various locations were just right for the photo shoot. Matthew was also easily available for questions, providing guidance and advice.
Great event. Fantastic model, great location, great experience and instruction. Look forward to the next one.
Had a fun time walking around the car show. I appreciate that this was an actual event that we got to take pictures during.

Although I am a Vegas Local, I have never had a chance to see the MSG Sphere up close . I mentioned to a friend that the only way to get an arial shot of the Sphere is from a helicopter since you can NOT fly drones anywhere near it. I also said that the "Universe needed to make this happen for me". 3 days later I was hired by a company to shoot their annual conference which included a helicopter tour of the Strip. 5 days after I asked for it, I was doing it. The best part... I told the pilot th

Between Reno and Carson City, NV there is a Washoe Lake it is a Nevada State Park. You can see wild Mustangs over there, they spend a lot of time by the lake. I was lucky to encounter five Mustangs, all young males, they were running along the shore and in the sage bushes by the lake, I walked closer to them, after a couple of fake charges at me they left me alone and I was lucky to see them play. Unfortunately I had with me only 24-70mm lens but still, I was able to take few interesting picture

While visiting Cannon Beach, Oregon for Spring Break this year, we were treated to beautiful blue skies, warm weather, stars AND airglow at night! I was absolutely giddy about seeing those stars! Now I hope you all know how extremely rare this combination is on the pacific coast in spring. It's normally overcast and raining and definitely no stars to be seen. Thank you universe for allowing your magic to flow this evening. I truly appreciate you and your powers ??

to create this I used a piece of Teal vinyl for the backdrop, I had the camera, with a 30 mm Marco lens on a tripod set to manual focus, with focus staking of 10 shots I only used 5 in the end). for lighting I had two static lights on mini stands so I could play about with their placement to get the effect I was looking for. The dandelion seed was held in place, by putting it into a piece of white tack, I then sprayed it using a little electronic face atomiser (bought from Amazon) and loa

Decided to make a composite that resembles the photo that NASA took with their millions of dolllar photo equipment. 2 months ago I photographed the full moon and placed it on top of the most recent solar eclipse photo I took. The moon normally get its light from the sun so getting the perspective with moon visibility is impossible during an eclipse unless you have nasa gear. My photo was taken with a canon R5, RF400mm F2.8 and cropped in.
