Matthew Consoli
I encourage newer photographers to sign up for this session. We will demystify ISO, shutter speed, and aperture settings. We will combine architecture, street, and art subjects to leverage and practice step-by-step instructions. Some of you who have joined me in the past may find this session to be a little elementary, but feel free to sign up if you want to challenge yourself with practice and add more content to your collection. No specialty gear is necessary. In fact, bring a camera phone! Modern phones offer customization of these three settings, so sign up if this will benefit you!For everyone else bring one or two lenses, leave the flashes and tripods at home, and be sure that you have at least 32 gigs of free storage and extra batteries. Please find some videos that show you how to change the shutter speed, ISO, and aperture settings for your own camera. That's it, I can provide guidance from there. There are many manufacturers, and I don't know all of the settings.

One of the most basic foundations of composition is the Rule of Thirds. Although many people are familiar with this technique it is often forgotten in the haste to take a photo. Even so, it can make an average picture into something which has tension and dynamism.

In this meetup we will practice using the Rule of Thirds in a street-setting full of photographic possibility.

Saturday 17 May

Street art is a unique and colorful art form and can be found in nooks and crannies all over Las Vegas. Capturing art in the streets in photographs can be tricky because these urban art pieces are in public spaces, that are busy and usually filled with a decent amount of traffic. Really enjoyed it. The Abstract Photo Walk helped me stretch my imagination and creative style. Matt is a great instructor. He is always checking to make sure all our questions are answered. He also explains (sometimes complex) things in a comprehensible way.

The event itself was fun, even though I don't really like walking around with my expensive photography equipment downtown. Matt did a very good job teaching us new things, even though he asked a little bit too often if we had any questions, and at some places we spent too much time in my opinion. What I didn't like so much is that there was a model and a tip was encouraged. I booked an abstract class, which, in my head didn't include a model. I think this option should be mentioned before, because now I felt obligated to tip the model. Also, models are TFP, which normally doesn't include tipping?!

It was lots of fun. I was able to "loosen up" and present motion in my photographs. Matt was a great instructor and facilitator. He checked in many times to be sure our questions were answered and we were understanding the concept of movement.

The neon lights of Las Vegas still blaze, but there?s something magical about the juxtaposition of these vintage cars against the modern cityscape. The air is electric, filled with the rumble of polished engines and the hum of memories from an era long past. The retro Vegas sign reflects on the glossy hoods, instantly transporting visitors to the golden age when these classic beauties first roared onto the scene.Back in the 1950s and ?60s, Vegas was a playground of glamour and optimism. Every year, I try to do something new or exciting for my birthday. This year was a little more low-key?lots of fun playing games with friends and even a surprise party at work?but I still wanted to document the day somehow. With evening plans in place, I couldn?t travel far, so I made a last-minute decision to visit Seven Magic Mountains at sunset, something I had been meaning to do for a while. Grabbing my tripod and camera, I rushed out the door, hoping to catch the last bit of light.Wh

The hourly forecast indicated promising conditions for a spectacular sunrise for which the desert southwest is famous. The composition I had in mind was of this old juniper snag looking west with the eastern escarpment of the Spring Mountains in the background. The color looking west was just not happening. In my disappointment I turned around to grab my gear and head back. Looking east I found the color I had hoped for. I set up on the other side of the tree composed the scene and fired away
