Introduction to Manual Settings Meetup

Introduction to Manual Settings Meetup

Saturday 09 March
Downtown Las Vegas - 10am - 2 Hours
Matthew Consoli
I encourage newer photographers to sign up for this session. We will demystify ISO, shutter speed, and aperture settings. We will combine architecture, street, and art subjects to leverage and practice step-by-step instructions. Some of you who have joined me in the past may find this session to be a little elementary, but feel free to sign up if you want to challenge yourself with practice and add more content to your collection.

No specialty gear is necessary. In fact, bring a camera phone! Modern phones offer customization of these three settings, so sign up if this will benefit you!
For everyone else: bring one or two lenses, leave the flashes and tripods at home, and be sure that you have at least 32 gigs of free storage and extra batteries.
Please find some videos that show you how to change the shutter speed, ISO, and aperture settings for your own camera. That's it, I can provide guidance from there. There are many manufacturers, and I don't know all of the settings.

Architecture Photography Class

Architecture Photography Class

Saturday 30 March
Hacienda Rd, Newberry Springs - 10am - 3 Hours
Matthew Consoli
As a unique unused collection of buildings, the years of graffiti and weathering have given this cluster of abandoned structures an ephemeral quality. The emphasis of the shoot will encompass both story-telling and a meditation on the progression of decay in the absence of human intervention. Considering the nature of the site, a variety of different compositions will be warmly encouraged.

Old buildings and rust captures worked out great with the slightly overcast sky. The color was brought out. It is a nice place to take photos, I will go back.

Matthew is a great lead photographer and his location was spot-on for model photography. I was able to get so many good shots, with different backgrounds and the models seemed to enjoy the day, also. The 85mm lens shoot worked really well!

We are spending winters in Las Vegas to get out of the cold in Philadelphia, but when the opportunity to photograph the snow against the red rock presented itself, I got in the car to see what I could capture. Fortunate to not only have snow in the mountains, but also on the desert floor -- at least for a couple hours.

Title or Location: Dante?s View Death Valley National Park
The August storms on the west coast caused tremendous damage in Death Valley National Park that still impact the Park in January. One of the consequences was the creation of Lake Manley in Badwater Basin. The lake is just a couple of inches deep, but makes for some great reflection photos. This photo was taken from Dante?s View shortly after sunset.

Annual Red Flag at Nellis Air Force Base 2024, was an early morning with overcast. I couldn't find the right shot, decided to go for a belly shot of a group of Fith Gen F-35 Lightening II jets. My sister loves the jets and her favorite color is purple. I decided to do a purple backdrop for her, she loves it.

First off, I have to say that I am not a "Birder". But I love challenging my photographic skills and abilities. The American Kestrel is not a big bird, and it is fast. So even when you know its takeoff is imminent, it is still hard to get a nice clear photo of the bird. This particular image was shot with a Canon R6 camera, with the RF100-500mm f/4.5-7.1 L IS USM lens at 1/5000 sec, f/7.1 and ISO 4000. I used the animal eye-tracking feature of this mirrorless full frame camera, and was very plea

I had shot the sunrise at Horseshoe Bend the same morning and was hoping for a blazing sunset at this location after talking to the other photographers present at sunrise. Even with some clouds, we were not so fortunate and when the sunlight was casting on the water I switched to black and white mentality and was able to capture this photo. You can just see the setting sun in the upper right corner for the photo.

I was on a leisurely family walk going towards Nene Valley Railway in Wansford when serendipity struck, and I found myself in the perfect spot to capture a captivating moment. The sight of a steam train preparing to depart from the station sparked a rush of excitement and nostalgia. The timeless allure of steam trains and the bustling atmosphere of the railway added a touch of history and charm to my photography experience.

It was a cloudy day and my cat was up in the tree. he had always had very deep blue, but with all the defused light from the clouds and the contrast from the tree bark, It sent me running for my camera.I shot it on a Nikon D5600, with a 70 - 200mm lens, on January 25, 2024.I shot it raw while in manual mode, the aperture was 4.1, the iso 100, and the shutter speed was 1 over 700.

This one took a bit of planning to catch the Milky Way in the place I wanted, the Weather, Moon, and Milky Way core all had to be right and as you might guess it took a few seasons for it to come together, every time it was a walk in the dark over the sand dunes from Pennard to get to the right spot on the cliff edge, I'm a little picky when it comes to star trails and although there are certain formulas for shutter speed to "visibly" limit star trails I'd rather have none, so I dragged my Star
